The New York Times is reporting that Newt Gingrich will be ending his presidential campaign within the next week. This could be one of the smartest decisions that Gingrich as made in a long time. On Tuesday night, he placed last in the Pennsylvania primaries and he has been trailing frontrunner Mitt Romney in the overall delegate count for some time. With Gingrich gone, Romney has lost the last Republican rival candidate who was actually a threat. (Sorry Ron Paul). That being said, it is doubtful that Romney’s strategy will change much. He had already been criticized previously for dismissing his competition and focusing on President Obama. At least now, such a strategy makes sense.
