Meagan Good’s Engagement Means There’s Hope

Due to the amazing success of Think Like A Man, which knocked Hunger Games out of the number one spot this weekend, I figured it would be worth mentioning that Meagan Good is reportedly engaged.  It happened a few weeks ago.  I know that this may not appear to be relevant to this website.  After all, at Ministerial Life we pride ourselves for not being driven by gossip.  Still, there is a reason that I am mentioning it.  Her fiance is a preacher.  That’s right, a Seventh Day Adventist preacher and Sony Pictures producer named DeVon Franklin.

I guess to show that it is worthless to count yourself out–even if it seems to make sense at first glance.  That resonates pretty well for me given that my six-year drought has been filled with potentially promising interactions with women that I squashed in the early stages for various reasons.  Sometimes, I used the fact that I serve as a minister.  After all, ministry has a way of making relationships extremely complicated.  Other times, I used my awareness of other men who were in pursuit of these women as a reason to bow out after deciding that the odds were in their favor.  A lot of times, I focused on my status as a graduate student–specifically my tight budget.  For the most part, my reasons were all excuses to cover my fear of rejection.  Thankfully, that fear has decreased a bit over the years.

On behalf of male ministers everywhere, I salute DeVon Franklin.  He has definitely inspired the rest of us to aim high.  No, this is not only referring to her outer beauty.  At 30 years of age, Meagan Good is a very successful actress who many men would find intimidating.  A lot of men would have never considered starting a conversation with her even if they were as successful in their careers as Franklin.  Nonetheless, he took a risk and prevailed while they worked together on the set of Jumping the Broom last year.  For that he should be lauded, though I am sure that the knowledge that Meagan Good will be his wife sometime in the near future is a reward in and of itself.
